Mechanical Design Engineer | AI/Robotics Start-Up | In-Office (Toronto) | $150k - $170k
Job description
The Company
Our client is a leading innovator in cutting-edge mechanical and engineering solutions. With a strong focus on delivering high-quality, reliable products, they pride themselves on their collaborative approach, bringing together teams of experts from various disciplines to design, prototype, and manufacture exceptional systems. Their mission is to create solutions that excel in functionality, durability, and efficiency, all while meeting market and cost expectations.
The Role
Our client is seeking a talented and experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing innovative and efficient mechanical systems with a focus on tight packaging. This includes the strategic and efficient arrangement of components, subsystems, and assemblies within constrained spaces to achieve optimal functionality, manufacturability, and aesthetics. You will work to maximize the use of available space, ensuring precise tolerances, robust performance, and seamless integration while avoiding interference or conflicts between components. Your expertise will play a critical role in creating designs that meet performance requirements and are easy to manufacture and assemble.
Requirements
- Experience consumer tech products ideally electronics.
- Experience with tight packaging components, laptops or systems.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) tools like ANSYS, Abaqus, or SolidWorks Simulation.
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems, tolerances, and materials, including plastics, metals, and composites. Need this
- Familiarity with prototyping techniques, including 3D printing, injection molding, and machining.
- Expertise in manufacturing processes such as injection molding, casting, stamping, and CNC machining.
Responsibilities
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:
Space Optimization:
- Maximize the use of available space, minimizing wasted volume in designs.
- Focus on compact systems such as consumer electronics, automotive components, and portable devices.
Component Placement:
- Strategically arrange components to fit within design constraints while addressing functional requirements, such as thermal management, connectivity, and structural integrity.
Integration:
- Combine multiple functions into single components to reduce part count and overall size.
- Example: Incorporate a PCB that also serves as a structural member.
Tolerance Management:
- Ensure precise tolerances to avoid misalignment or mechanical interference between components.
Thermal Management:
- Address heat dissipation challenges due to limited airflow and proximity of heat-generating components.
Assembly Feasibility:
- Design for ease of manufacturing and assembly (DFMA) to ensure the product can be built reliably and cost-effectively, even in constrained spaces.
Durability and Reliability:
- Ensure components are securely positioned to withstand operating stresses such as vibration, shock, and thermal expansion.
Benefits
- Opportunity to work on innovative, cutting-edge projects.
- A collaborative and inclusive workplace culture.
- Access to advanced tools and technologies.
- Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
- Professional development and growth opportunities.
