The Role

They’re currently seeking a Senior AI Backend Engineer in a hybrid role based in Toronto, ON, to spearhead development on their flagship AI-powered document processing engine. This system sits at the heart of the company’s platform and is responsible for turning dense, structured and unstructured documents (think forms, statements, disclosures) into clean, actionable datasets. The role involves building out scalable infrastructure for parsing, interpreting, and extracting data using advanced ML/LLM/OCR technologies, ensuring both speed and accuracy in high-volume production environments.

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience building and maintaining LLM-based pipelines in production settings
• Solid familiarity with backend frameworks such as NodeJS and/or Django
• Strong understanding of scalable model pipeline architecture and performance optimization
• Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to align AI tools with real-world user needs
• Self-starter with an analytical mindset and a preference for fast-paced environments

Responsibilities

• Drive end-to-end development of the AI document understanding engine
• Integrate state-of-the-art techniques in layout analysis, entity extraction, and classification
• Implement and optimize prompt strategies for a variety of AI tasks including signature detection, tabular parsing, and content categorization
• Partner with product and platform teams to design intuitive, effective user-facing features
• Continuously research emerging trends in LLMs and AI infrastructure, bringing new techniques into production
• Mentor junior engineers and help shape the overall AI strategy and engineering culture
