Job description
Full-stack Engineer | MERN | Agentic AI | Toronto (hybrid) | $130k – $150k
The Company
A freshly capitalized, early-stage startup is on a mission to overhaul how businesses deal with clunky, document-heavy processes — using AI, a ruthless focus on automation, and the energy of people who’ve seen too much broken software. They're not here to scale fluff. They're building tools that actually work — and they’re starting from scratch. If you’re the type to ask “why the hell are we doing it this way?” — you’ll fit in.
The Role
They’re looking for a Full Stack Engineer to join as an early team member. You won’t be handed tickets and told to shut up and code — you’ll be building real things that make or break the product. Think zero-to-one systems, not pixel-perfect polish. You’ll help shape the backend, frontend, and everything in between — including the weird AI bits that are held together with equal parts Python and prayer.
The Responsibilities
- Build and own parts of the product across the full stack (MERN, Python, Node.js, Angular)
- Architect backend systems with AI/ML integrations baked in
- Spin up scalable infrastructure using cloud platforms (AWS or Azure — pick your poison)
- Work alongside the founding team to influence product direction and user experience
- Establish lightweight but effective engineering practices (and kill bad ones early)
- Play with bleeding-edge tech like agentic workflows, OCR, and LLM-driven systems
- Make things work fast — and fix them when they don’t
Tech Toolkit Includes: MERN stack, PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS/Azure, Python, Node.js, JavaScript, Angular, OpenAI, OCR, ETL pipelines, Chrome extension logic, and anything else you sneak in that works better.
The Requirements
- 3–6+ years of experience building full-stack software systems
- Confidence in taking a product from idea to shipped feature
- Experience with cloud-native applications and modern development workflows
- Competence with a MERN stack
- Exposure to Python
- Experience with JavaScript and FE frameworks (ideally Angular and Node)
- Experience with Azure or something similar
- Ability to survive (and thrive) in chaos of a start-up. Priur experience highly regarded
- A builder’s bias — you don’t need a PM to tell you what to do
- A passion for Agentic AI, ETL & LLM (and ideally experience with it)
- A sense of humour
